Unfortunately, most articles on postmodernism are full of complicated words like modernity (not the same as modernism), and post-modernity (different to postmodernism), Metamodernism (from, but not part of, postmodernism), and Post-postmodernism (gimme a break). So instead of using jargon, let me give you a simple dress-code example to help you to understand postmodernist art and how it differs from modern art and its even earlier predecessor academic art.
The informal essay is written mainly for enjoyment. This is not to say that it cannot be informative or persuasive however, it is less a formal statement than a relaxed expression of opinion, observation, humor or pleasure. A good informal essay has a relaxed style but retains a strong structure, though that structure may be less rigid than in a formal paper.

The quantitative research emphasizes on social phenomena through evidence which exists in numeric or quantifiable form. It depends on statistical analysis of data and leads to valid and reliable claims and results.

In a way, these academic essays are like a trial in court. The attorney, whether prosecuting the case or defending it, begins with an opening statement explaining the background and telling the jury what he or she intends to prove (the thesis statement). Then, the attorney presents witnesses for proof (the body of the paragraphs). Lastly, the attorney presents the closing argument (concluding paragraph).
Make sure you are clear about this part of the assignment, because your use of evidence will be crucial in writing a successful paper. You are not just learning how to argue you are learning how to argue with specific types of materials and ideas. Ask your instructor what counts as acceptable evidence.
